A New Way to Get Your Family History Education

What if learning how to make family history discoveries looked a whole lot less like school and a whole lot more like the way our kids learn how to play video games? 🎮

Whether you are just getting started on your family history journey or you've been around for a minute, you know that traditional methods of learning how to build a family tree are still being used.  Conferences with hour long lectures.  Webinars that are more of the same.  And, when you can find them, tutorial articles with screen shots that sometimes answer your question and sometimes don't.  It often feels like a whole lot of theory and not much practical application.

A year ago I had an idea. 💡 My nephews spend hours upon hours watching other kids play video games.  "I wonder if genealogists would watch other genealogists do genealogy?"  What if we could dive in, follow along, and learn as we go?  What if we could gain confidence from seeing it done?  What if we could have a-ha moments about where we went wrong and come away with the exact steps needed to take to make our next big family history discovery?

From that pajamas & pedigrees™ was born.

Three times a month while exploring my own family tree I turn on my web cam and let the p&p community follow along.  I track down ancestors and their descendants, upload family photos, identify DNA matches, and find fascinating stories to share with my family.  All the while, sharing my stream of consciousness about what I'm doing and why I'm doing it the way that I am.  Community members see my methods and mistakes.  They see my excitement and exacerbation.  They learn more than ever about how to use the tools and resources available to them to make their own family history discoveries.  They share tips and tricks with one another in the live session chat and in the post session comments.

After testing this for a year with a small group, I am now ready to invite you to join the community we have created.

In 2024, I've added a beginners' series for those of you new to family history or who need a refresher.  Community members also have access to quarterly bonus sessions called "ask me anything" and "brick wall hot seats."  Whether you join the zoom session LIVE or watch the recording later, you can follow along in your own family tree and immediately apply the things you are learning.
